Taking care of your Coton
‘Grooming is a way to build a strong bond between dog and owner’
I have been a Professional Groomer for almost 40 years, hold City and Guilds Advanced 7750 in Dog Grooming with Distinction as well as City and Guilds Adult Teaching Certificate. Winner at Pro Groom Grooming Competition and Demonstrator at various grooming workshops held around the country. I have been ‘Top Breeder’ of the Coton for as many years since bringing them to the UK. I have won Best of Breed three times at Crufts with the dogs I have shown and bred. I have also bred Champions in other countries and imported several overseas Champions to show and incorporate within my breeding program.
Over recent years I am finding that many puppy buyers are having problems finding a groomer that actually understands how to trim a Coton to their satisfaction. I have seen breeders and clubs trying to demonstrate and to be quite honest they haven’t a clue. A Coton is really quite a difficult breed even for a professional groomer and for this reason I have decided to offer half day workshops in coat maintenance for this breed. Topics covered include bathing, drying, de-matting, cutting nails, care of ears (no trimming will be involved as you would need much longer to even be able to comfortably hold your scissors correctly let alone trim a dog!). These workshops will be suitable for those already owning a Coton and also those thinking of buying one to see what is involved. Due to the fact that I will only take two people at any one time I am able to tailor the tuition to your individual requirements. If you own a Coton you are able to bring it with you to work on and if you don’t I will supply you with a well behaved one of mine. This course does not include show preparation but if there is a requirement I will offer this in the future.
The course will be held here with me at Cotonkiss.
